PRA Symposium Series Presents "The Power of Partnering for Plastic-Free July!"

This meeting will bring together various municipal environmental groups to share insights, collaborate on solutions, and strengthen our collective efforts toward a more sustainable future.

The event will feature a brief presentation from the Plastic Reduction Alliance of Northwest Indiana, small group breakout sessions, opportunities for networking, and a call to collective action!

Hobart Senior Center Invites Dr. Julie Peller to Present on Plastic Waste

Environmental science professor from Valparaiso University Dr. Julie Peller will present at the Hobart Senior Center on Wednesday, May 28, at 2pm. Dr. Peller will share current research and community action projects related to reducing plastic waste in Northern Indiana.

Earth Day 2025

Northwest Indiana Earth Day will be celebrated on Saturday, April 12th, from 9am-1pm at the Porter County Expo.

This event is FREE to the public and will feature an array of sustainably minded vendors, wildlife shows, a magician performance, interactive children's games, guest speakers, birdhouse building, live music, a reuse fair, food, giveaways, and much more!!

This is our 17th year annual Earth Day celebration here in NWI and we are excited to announce that this years nationwide theme is "Our Power, Our Planet"!! An opportunity to explore Earth's renewable and natural resources.

Shifting Minds, Shaping Policies: Tackling Plastic Waste Together

In a continued effort to foster environmental sustainability and promote plastic reduction practices within the community, local leaders, educators, and environmental advocates will gather to discuss strategies for reducing plastic waste.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 26th at 5:30pm at Valparaiso University’s Harre Union, Ballroom A.

Presentations and discussions will focus on the psychology of decision making and advocacy for effective legislative policies related to our plastic pollution problem.

Presenters include: Blake Bent, a Professor of Psychology at Valparaiso University, and Harishini Ratnayaka, the Advocacy Program Manager at Save the Dunes.

The meeting, hosted by the Plastic Reduction Alliance of Northwest Indiana, will continue to address the growing concern of plastic pollution and its impact on the environment and public health.

For those unable to attend in person, the event will be streamed via Facebook Live, allowing remote participants to join the conversation and ask questions, ensuring an inclusive experience for all interested community members.

Holiday Swap, Thrift, and Gift

We are so excited to partner with Alley Kats for this FREE event to swap your holiday trinkets for something new to you!! Join us to promote sustainability and reduce single use plastics this holiday season by being a part of this fun night.

Attendees are asked to bring gently used ornaments, tabletop decor (no larger than a microwave), and unfinished or unused rolls of wrapping paper, gift bags, and wrapping accessories, such as bows and gift tags to SWAP with others at the event.

FIRST TWENTY PEOPLE TO SIGN UP GET A FREE PLASTIC ALLIANCE REUSABLE BAG!! and delicious hot chocolate will be provided by Roots Market Cafe.
